Secular Therapy

Recovering from Religion

The Secular Therapy Project (STP) is a referral database for patients who require evidence based treatment without religious, spiritual, or supernatural beliefs informing the therapeutic approach.

Secular Therapy Project

Therapists are appropriately licensed in their state or country, are secular in nature as well as practice, and actually use evidenced based treatments, which have been shown to be effective in improving mental health problems in controlled clinical trials.

Affirming Therapy

Affirmative therapy for individuals is based on the premise that LGBTQIA+ and heterosexual identities are equally valid. An LGBTQIA+    affirmative counselor has particular knowledge, awareness (specifically self-awareness), and skills specific to competent counseling for LGBTQIA+ individuals and couples. While maintaining a broad view of acceptable lifestyles, LGBTQIA+ affirmative therapy intervenes by challenging oppressive  stereotypes and systems of thought, and celebrates and advocates for LGBTQIA+ people and their relationships.

Gender Therapy

Psychotherapeutic assistance to explore gender identity and expression or to facilitate a coming-out process; assessment and referral for feminizing/masculinizing medical interventions; psychological support for family members (partners, children, extended family); psychotherapy unrelated to gender concerns; or other professional services.

What is a Life Coach?

A life coach is someone specifically trained to help patients learn how to better manage their lives by setting goals, and accomplishing those goals with the SMART model in place.  The difference between life coaching and psychotherapy is life coaches overlap with therapists by focusing on the present while therapy tends to focus on past issues and mood improvement.
